Part-Time Program Manager Job Description

OVERVIEW:

Onancock Main Street (OMS) is a non-profit organization and one of 27 Virginia Main Street programs that nurtures successful local revitalization. OMS is committed to the preservation and revitalization of historic Downtown Onancock Accomplishments include supporting our businesses through promotions and funding, enriching the community with art and murals, garnering grant funding, and increasing tourism, just to name a few.

We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter, who is passionate about contributing to Onancock’s continued success, to serve as OMS Program Manager. Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required in addition to being capable of working in independent and group settings.

Reporting to the OMS Board of Directors, the Program Manager will work closely with Board appointed committees and sub-committees, Onancock business owners and managers, town government and other stakeholder organizations to develop and execute strategies, and gain support, for Downtown preservation and revitalization efforts. This individual will serve as an ambassador for the Main Street approach, developing public awareness of and financial support for OMS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration and Management:

  • Manage the administration, general responsibilities and day-to-day activities of OMS programs, projects and initiatives

  • Assist established committees to develop goals and objectives and implement work plans

  • Assist in the development and management of fundraising and volunteer recruitment initiatives

  • Write grants, oversee grant funding, research new grant opportunities and implement activities associated with grants and reporting

  • Attend meetings of the Board of Directors

  • Stay informed about current issues and trends in Downtown Onancock and share information with the Board of Directors as appropriate

  • Maintain appropriate communication with, and oversee reporting to, the Virginia Main Street Program

  • Assist the Board President in planning the agenda for Board meetings, and Board Treasurer in preparing the annual OMS budget

Community Relations and Communications:

  • Advocate for and promote a visionary approach to Downtown revitalization and Main Street values, priorities and programs

  • Manage the OMS website and social media pages, as well as vendors

  • Speak to groups and organizations about OMS priorities, promoting a positive image and encouraging cooperative relationships among public and private interests

  • Represent OMS within the local community

  • Establish and maintain consistent and meaningful communications with all key partners and stakeholders. Provide regular updates of OMS progress and accomplishments

Program and Project Management:

  • Develop detailed knowledge of the physical assets of Downtown Onancock; strengths and weaknesses; threats and opportunities

  • Understand the limitations to, and the opportunities for, filling empty buildings and attracting new businesses to Downtown Onancock

  • Assist in economic development strategies

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or substantive experience/specialized expertise directly related to the position

  • Demonstrated track record of working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic, a commitment to high performance and teamwork with a desire to work collaboratively with colleagues and other staff

  • Basic knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, with the ability to work independently with minimal oversight, while managing multiple relationships and competing priorities concurrently

  • Proficiency with social media

Preferred:

  • Experience with nonprofits including fundraising and volunteer recruitment/management

  • Familiarity with QuickBooks or other business accounting software

  • Grant writing proficiency

  • Knowledge of Constant Contact

POSITION:

  • The OMS Program Manager is considered an “at will” employee

  • Part-time (25 hours/week)

  • Onsite in Onancock, VA, with some remote work

  • Salary range: $18-$20/hr. depending on experience
